brandon & i were married on may 19, 2007. it was also the day i graduated college. i didn't mean to do it that way. i thought i was graduating on may 12th & the following week i would get married. i think they moved it because the university added winter sessions for the hurricane katrina victims.. thus, moving my graduation to the following week. i got married at the same time i was supposed to walk down the aisle to get my diploma. we had already moved our wedding date up a few times (can you tell brandon was not patient?!).. so there was no way i was going to move it again.
we had a beautiful wedding surrounded by our closest friends & families. i had a good looking bridal party!! my best friend, jenny, served as my maid of honor & my sister-in-law, gina, served as my matron of honor. kaci (my sis-in-law), jenifer, chessi, jodi served as my bridesmaids & taylor was my junior bridesmaid/flower girl. jeffery & zach served as best men. groomsmen were stephen, brandon aka tooty, kyle & billy. ring bearer was my nephew, preston. my four brothers (alex, lester, axel & aaron) served as ushers.
we were married at my church in louisiana (this was the same church my parents married in twice (legal wedding in u.s. & 25th wedding anniversary).. and our reception was at a local golf course. i couldn't have had such a beautiful wedding without the help of some amazing women, melissa (who made the bouquets/boutonniere & helped decorate), mrs. denise (mom's best friend), & mrs. jane.. and many many more amazing women & friends. i definitely felt an outpouring of love.. and i appreciate all these women stepping in the gap of my mom's absence.
my wedding color was lilac. i have never been a huge fan of "purple".. but years before the wedding, my brother, alex, was a groomsman in a wedding & one of their colors was lilac. and my mom told me i should use that color when i got married because it was pretty. and i remember saying "no way, i don't like purple." heehee! then when we celebrated my parents 25th wedding anniversary/ renewal of vows, my mom wore a pretty floral lavender dress & she looked so pretty. by that time purple or shades of purple had become my mother's favorite color. when she passed away, i had the honor of picking out her dress. mrs. denise & i found a really beautiful lilac dress & that's what she was buried in. when it came time to pick a wedding color, i knew what i was going to do. because my mother couldn't be there for my wedding.. i used lilac in remembrance of her. and would you know it that now purple is now my favorite color?! heehee!
both of our pastors married us. bro. harry had been my pastor for about 15 years.. and marcus has been brandon's pastor since he was a teen & he is still our pastor (in new mexico & now arkansas). i felt honored to have both our spiritual leaders unite us in holy matrimony. also, because my mom could not be there, mrs. denise lit my unity candle. i, also, wore my mother's pearls on my special day.
something that was funny: my maid of honor forgot to bring the ring & i had to pretend i put the ring on brandon's finger.
something not so funny: my brother, axel, accidentally spilt (sp?)/spilled red punch on my dress.
the wedding seemed like a whirlwind. planning lasted for months & the wedding itself seemed to last like 20 minutes. it went by so quickly!!

Oh, I loved this entry. There's just nothing like a Southern wedding. We just definitely know "hot to do it." I know your Mom would have been so proud and how wonderful that some of your Mom's friends stepped up to help you with your wedding plans.
Lavender was the color of my wedding too.
Cannot even imagine being so young and not having my Mom. Makes me even feel more blessed that I had my Mom for 56 years of my life.
Blessings abundant to you!
Wow, you looked so beautiful at your wedding! I love the way you wore your hair done, you look great!
