kansas city getaway

i love getting out of town.  even if it's just for 2-3 days.  and if i don't get out of town often, i get really A.D.D & bored & start feeling depressed.  i love exploring new cities.  i just like to get away.  who doesn't?

every year, brandon & i usually take a trip somewhere during memorial day weekend.  sometimes, we'll take extra days off work & use that as our anniversary getaway.  when we lived in new mexico, we went to denver/colorado springs/boulder two years in a row.  we absolutely love colorado & love big(ger) cities.  since we've been in arkansas for the past (almost) two years, we've changed our "anniversary" getaway into a family getaway with fox.  and we've gone to kansas city both times.

i love it there.  we have stayed in overland park & explore olathe, kansas city, & overland park.  it's such a nice place... and they have so much to do.  it makes me really sad to come back home because we honestly don't have much.  a nice park or two & restaurants.  but nothing really family oriented.  there's really nothing to do.  *sigh*  one day, we will live in a bigger city.  but until then, we'll make do.

anyways, we had a great time this past weekend.  the first order of business when we got there was to get fox's hair cut.  last year, we found a super cute & cool kid's hair salon.  they have little stations with cars that they sit in with mini flat screen tv's in front of them for entertainment while they get their hair cut.  we need one of these in our town.  every town needs one of these.

he's such a little stud with his summer hair cut!
we wanted to do more things for fox this time around.  last year, we did things that we were more interested in because he didn't really understand what was happening.  so we found this cool farmstead with live animals.  we actually ended up going to it twice because it rained the first day & we just liked it so much.  it was a really neat place.  really well kept & just so much fun for fox.  he got to feed & pet the animals.  he was even brave to get in the goat pin.  heehee!

fox & the goats

brandon & i love to try new restaurants.  brandon is more brave than i am.  he will usually try a restaurant & then take me because i'm somewhat picky with the establishments & whatnot.  and since it was vacation, we wanted to eat really good!  heehee!!

we took fox to eat at the t-rex cafe.  what a super cool place!!  we all loved it.  i don't know who liked it more... fox or us!  ha!  fox loved all the dinosaurs & big fish tanks.  and it was great that he was entertained while we ate.  sometimes, it's hard going out to eat with him.  but he was a good boy!!  ;-)

we also ate at joe's crab shack.  i've only eaten at joe's a few times, but i love there food!  and i was so excited to see that they had crawfish!  being pregnant, from louisiana & living away, i crave crawfish a lot.  i usually try to get some when i'm home visiting (if it's in season).  so momma was happy to eat crawfish, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, & corn on the cob!  heehee!!

btw, i don't eat/suck the crawfish head, just the tail.
another restaurant we really liked was cinzetti's (italian).  wow.  it's like an italian buffet.  a really nice italian buffet.  it was a great atmosphere & everyone was nice.  they gave us a tour of all they had to offer before we were seated.  it was so much food & desserts.  i wish we had a cinzetti's!!  my pictures didn't turn out so great in cinzetti's, but if you're ever in kansas city or northglenn, co, you must check it out!!

we didn't do much shopping, honestly.  we walked around shops, but only went into carter's.  i bought just a few things for baby girl.  i'm so excited to be able to shop for a little girl.. my little girl.  i can't wait to dress her up in tutus & dresses & big headbands!!  heehee!!

a few things for baby girl!
we also went swimming.  fox threw a major fit when it was time to go... but he took a nice, little nap afterwards.  ;-)  we went to a little children's festival thing called the jiggle jam.  it was really cool!  they had a lot of children booths set up: face painting, games, inflatable jump houses, etc.  they had live bands performing.  just a lot of fun being had there.  we didn't really do anything, but listen to a band or two.  it was packed out & lines were long.  plus, i don't think some of the things were age appropriate for him.  he did enjoy the music!!

he was such a hoot!  all in all, we had a wonderful time in kansas city!!  hopefully, next year, we'll get to visit a new city!
